Del.icio.us Nominations

Wow, del.icio.us is great! I finally got around to making an account there, and I only wish I'd done so sooner. It's even easier than using your browser 'bookmarks'. Plus you can add a description, and classify links with whatever combination of 'tags' you please. (Tagging is surprisingly fun.) So if there's anyone else out there who hasn't started using del.icio.us yet, I highly recommend you give it a try!

So, with many thanks to Alex for the suggestion, I'm going to use del.icio.us to implement public nominations for the Philosophers' Carnival.

Here's how it works:

1) Get yourself a free del.icio.us account. It takes less than a minute. Be sure to follow their advice and drag the "post to your del.icio.us account" link into your browser's quicklinks for easy access.

2) Readers: Whenever you read a philosophy blog post you'd like to nominate for the carnival, just post it to del.icio.us with the tag: PhilosophyCarnival (one word, caps optional). Did I mention how easy this is? It takes just a couple of seconds.

3) Authors: Before submitting a post to the carnival, you may wish to check the list of nominations, if you're interested in what other people want you to submit. But note that the final decision is entirely up to you.

4) Carnival Hosts: When compiling the carnival, give first priority to authors' self-submissions. But also check the nominations for any quality posts by authors who haven't made their own submission.

I hope that's all clear. Do leave a comment if you have any questions. Note that it is still permissible to use the official submission form to send in private nominations of others' posts. But we'd prefer it if you used the del.icio.us system instead, and reserved use of the official form for submitting your own posts.

P.S. For the background to this idea, be sure to read my previous post on public nominations.
